A Hymn We Can Finally Relate To: Jetta’s Start a Riot

Yes it hurts and even feels violent to the heart as if someone just ripped it out or gave you an intracardiac injection leaving you gasping for air. But as violent as a broken heart may feel, I never compared it to marching in the streets with my afro, screaming at the top of my lungs, pumping my fist, and dodging clubs over the calamity called love. Yet, this is exactly what the Liverpool singer Jetta does on her new albumStart a Riot. One minute you’re “leading the stars” together then the next “you’re breaking a promise [vows]” and starting a riot. Jetta’s soultry voice protest about the euphoric state of love that is often unmasked and enters what Dante calls Inferno.
Like Jetta, we can all agree that love often seems far from heaven and simplicity. Yet, the ElleUK Session directed by Daniel Burdett that features the 23 year old star manages to bring calmness to chaos. unlike the original video. On a set made up of just two band members, Jetta, and a mic, Burdett makes it all so simple. He takes our mind away from the pitfall and toward Jetta’s hypnotic voice and natural hair that both cut through the air with every intense note. He guides us through some adrenaline pumping tunes that ultimately leave us singing, ” its all right…let it all go.” Just enough to give us courage to start all over again and never give up on love.
