The Art of Contouring and Highlighting By Megan Panwar
Contouring is a makeup technique that every woman can appreciate. Last week I posted a picture on social media saying, “I eat what I want then contour”…but it’s true! Contouring is a simple technique incorporated into your makeup regimen that can make you look like you shed a few pounds in simply no time.
Balance is key when it comes to anything in life and that too, includes contouring. When contouring, highlighting is crucial. The process of understanding contouring and highlighting seems complicated but it’s very simple once you see the difference it can make in the structure of your face.
Dark colors make things look smaller while lighter colors make things look bigger. This concept is applied to our faces and makeup application. We contour our cheekbones, forehead, sides of nose, jaw line, and right below the lip to give off the illusion they are “concaved” inwards.
Highlighting usually takes place on anything we want to lift “upwards” typically the high points of our faces: middle of the forehead, bridge of nose, tops of our cheeks, cupids bow and above the lip and chin. Highlighting not only intensifies the contour but also gives a soft, subtle glow.
I like to cream contour and highlight using a mixture of foundations and concealers. A lot of people believe you need specific products when highlighting and contouring but keep in mind there are absolutely no rules to makeup so use what you have. Quick tip: If you’ve gotten a bit paler during the winter months, use your summer foundation to contour with!
During the summer months I enjoy keeping that dewy glow on my skin to look natural. Winter time– I prefer to stay matte. Setting my contour is something I truly love especially because it intensifies the look so much more (which is acceptable during the fall and winter). My go to contour palette has been by Aesthetica Cosmetics. The formula of the product is so luxurious and the pigmentation pay off is amazing. I love that this company is 100% cruelty free too! Check them out at www.Aesthetica.me and be sure to shop for their amazing palette!
