Get Fit for Spring Fashions
Spring is here and with the warmer weather comes a new wardrobe of flowing spring dresses, crop tops, graceful skirts and lighter blouses. It’s time for fashion that shows off your shape a little more, so your shape has to be toned. Here are a few tips to help you kick-start your spring workout plan:
Eat right. Diet is a key part of your fitness plan, so eat more fresh vegetables and fruit, healthy protein such as fish, chicken, lean beef, eggs and beans, and slow-burning carbs such as oatmeal, sweet potatoes and whole-wheat bread. Cut down on sweets, unhealthy fats and empty carbs such as white breads and pastries.
Commit to an exercise plan. Schedule time to work out and stick with it. Start small and build up to 45-60 minute workout 4-5 times a week.
Embrace the CARDIO. Cardio not only burns calories, but it strengthens your heart and lungs, increases your endurance and keeps your body tone. Jog, run, swim, jump rope, or hop on a trampoline.
Optimize to maximize. High Intensity Interval Training is based on performing an exercise at a high intensity for a short period of time, then adding a period of recovery. This is form of cardio is why sprinters have such great bodies. Try this one: find a hill in your neighborhood. Run up the hill for 30 seconds at a fast breath changing pace. Walk back down the hill as a rest. Do this 6-8 times.
Add weights and calisthenics. Lifting weights builds strength and gives your body more definition. Ladies NO you won’t bulk up! Weight lifting also increases your overall metabolism since muscle cells burn more calories, even at rest. Calisthenics force you to perform movements using your own body weight.
Need some guidance? Two trainers to follow on social media for some great workout ideas are Mankofit & Lita Lewis. I absolutely Love these two ladies!
Change up your routine. Add in a new sport like soccer or tennis. They’re great workouts, and you won’t even realize you’re exercising. Take a spin class at my favorite spot, SoulCycle, the classes are high energy and challenging.
Don’t Forget flexibility. Supplement your routine with Yoga or pilates. Y0u’ll gain flexibility and core strength while building long, lean and tone muscles.
